COMPETITION GUIDELINES
Skill Levels: Club members will compete within their own skill level. The judging will begin with the "B" level (Beginners) first, followed by the "A" Intermediate level, AA (Advanced) level and "P" (Professional) level. Your skill levels are posted on the bulliten board. If you choose to compete in a different level, please contact Sandy Dimke.
Electronic Submission Guide
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements To Prepare Images for Electronic Submissions
The ImageComp Pro, our competition software, requires that the width of an image not exceed 1024 pixels; the height not exceed 768 pixels. One of the dimensions may be smaller than the maximum stated but the other should be either 1024 or 768. If your image is much smaller than these dimensions, it will be projected on the screen about postage stamp size. The resolution is limited to 72 pixels per inch.

Print Competition Guide
Rules:
- One entry per competition.
- Images may be entered only once per year.
- Images entered must have been photographed within the last 2-year period.
- Entries must be handed in no later than 6:45 pm the night of the competition
- All entries must be labeled on back ONLY with member name, title of print and an arrow indicating proper direction to be used in light box.
- Digitally manipulated prints* may be judged separately.
- Please indicate if your photo fits this category.
- *Prints are considered DIGITALLY MANIPULATED if the member alters or enhances the original print in any way other than adjusting basic elements such as brightness/contrast, color balance, hue and saturation.
Sizes:
- Print Size = 8"x10" or larger - matted or just mounted
- Mat/mount size cannot exceed 16" x 20".
- No Frames, glass, or plastic covers as they create glare in the light box.
- Black and white mats or boards are suggested but any color may be used if it enhances the photo.
Scoring Criteria:
Each print will be evaluated according to three separate criteria categories. Think about these three items when you look at your own photo and see if you feel it does well with each criteria. (It's a good idea to think of these three items each time you take a photo, too).
- Technical Merit: Technical merit criteria include proper focus, exposure, film type vs. lighting, blurring, and image levelness.
- Composition: Composition criteria include general composition effectiveness, positioning of major image elements, use of ambient and artificial lighting, and the presence of unwanted or distracting picture elements
- Interest -(Eye Appeal/Storytelling): Interest scores include the clarity, strength and effectiveness of the photographer's visual statement.
Scoring Method:
- There will be 3 Judges. Judges will be 3 composite of PCoB members, members of other clubs or otherwise qualified individuals.
- Each judge will score between 1 and 9 per photo (giving 3 points to each category. Maximum total point per print = 27
- Judges votes will be calculated while they comment on the print and the total number of points per print will be announced before the next print is displayed. Competition results will be posted on the website
Awards:
- Prize ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and Honorable Mention.
- In June, yearly total points will determine winners for the year for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places in each skill level
